Square Eye x FIRS win Non‑Profit Standard of Excellence at WebAwards 2025

16 Sep 2025

We’re pleased to announce that Square Eye has been awarded a Non‑Profit Standard of Excellence at the 2025 WebAwards for the website we designed for the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS). This recognition honours excellent work in web design, content, usability, and technology in the non‑profit sector, and we’re proud to see the FIRS site stand out.

About FIRS & the project

FIRS is a global alliance of nine major respiratory health societies, representing over 100,000 members. Its mission is to promote lung health worldwide through collaboration, research, advocacy, and policy.

When engaging Square Eye, FIRS sought a website that could better reflect its global role, improve accessibility and the ease of finding content, modernise its technical stack, and support future growth (campaigns, resources, translations etc.).

Key aims included:

  • Redesigning the site for clarity, visual consistency, and user‑friendly navigation
  • Improving content architecture so publications, guidelines, position statements etc. are easier to access
  • Making the site accessible, performing well on search engines, fast-loading, and maintainable by the FIRS team
  • Implementing a cost-effective and low-maintenance multilingual solution
  • Future-proofing the site for resource expansion

We’re delighted with the new FIRS website – it’s modern, clear and accessible and really reflects our mission. Working with the team at Square Eye was a great experience – they were insightful, flexible and collaborative – and the WebAward is a wonderful recognition of that.

FIRS: breathing lungWhy this matters

  • For FIRS: this award shows that its digital presence meets a high standard with clarity, accessibility, and credibility, helping it better serve its members, partners, and the public.
  • For Square Eye: it’s proof that our approach works; combining thoughtful design, strong technical foundations, and user‑centred content makes a difference.
  • For non‑profits and organisations: this is a reminder that investing in user experience, content organisation, accessibility, and performance isn’t optional; it’s essential to being heard and trusted.

About the WebAwards

This year’s judges included web industry experts and senior professionals from companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Meta, Adobe, IBM, Salesforce, NVIDIA, PlayStation, Lenovo, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Warner Bros. Pictures, National Geographic, PBS, McCann, R/GA, AKQA, Razorfish and MediaMonks.

WebAward 2025 Non-profit Standard of Excellence awardFrom the judges

The WebAwards judges had this to say about the FIRS website:

The site presents key information clearly and makes it easy to understand what the organisation is all about. The content feels relevant and well‑organised, and the visuals and interactive elements help keep users engaged.

Some of the design and technical strengths that helped the site win:

  • Clean, clear layout with generous whitespace and well‑chosen typography to support the content rather than overwhelm it.
  • Simplified navigation and information architecture, reducing unnecessary clicks, grouping related resources, making key information obvious soon after entering
  • Improved performance, accessibility compliance (including good markup and attention to mobile/usability), better content governance (archiving older material, streamlining existing pages)
  • Flexible CMS setup to enable easier updating, future translations, campaign microsites, and resource growth

Other WebAward-winning websites by Square Eye

This win continues a tradition: in 2024 and 2022, we celebrated three Legal Standard of Excellence WebAwards for three very different legal websites:

And in 2023, we celebrated an Outstanding Website win for our work on the Cornerstone Barristers website.
